Exploring New Horizons: Panel Discussion on Emerging Opportunities in Aerospace, Defence, and Aviation

Nagpur, February 2, 2025: A dynamic panel discussion on Emerging Opportunities in Aerospace, Defence, and Aviation was successfully held on the second day of Advantage Vidarbha, an industrial development event hosted by the Association of Industrial Development (AID). The event took place at the RTMNU campus ground in Nagpur, aimed at promoting industrial growth, fostering business opportunities, and attracting investment to the Vidarbha region.

The VEDIC Engineering Design Innovation Centre played a pivotal role in organizing the panel discussion, with the aim of guiding industry professionals and stakeholders on the evolving trends in aerospace, defence, and aviation.

Industry Experts Illuminate Key Growth Areas

The panel discussion brought together distinguished leaders from the aerospace, defence, and aviation sectors, offering valuable insights into India’s growing role in global aerospace. Key topics included:

  • India’s increasing prominence in aerospace and defence manufacturing
  • Investment opportunities in aviation infrastructure
  • The importance of skill development and workforce capacity building

The event’s highlight was the address by Union Minister Shri Nitin Gadkari, who emphasized the crucial role of industry-academia collaboration and technological innovation in advancing India’s aerospace sector. He underscored the need to bridge the skill gap and provide job opportunities for young professionals through specialized training programs.

Shri Gadkari also acknowledged the contributions of institutions like VEDIC Engineering Design Innovation Centre in preparing India’s workforce for the fast-paced evolution of the aerospace and defence sectors.

Key Dignitaries Share Insights

The chief guest, Air Marshal Vijay Kumar Garg AVSM, VSM (AOC-in-C, Maintenance Command, IAF), discussed how an innovative and entrepreneurial mindset would lead India toward self-reliance, paving the way for the indigenization of the Armed Forces. Other distinguished guests included Dr. Bhimraya Metri, Air Marshal Sanjiv Ghuratia (AVSM, VSM, SMSO, Maintenance Command, IAF), Lt Gen Sanjay Verma (RTD) (PVSM, AVSM, VSM and Bar), Maj Gen Anil Bam (RTD) (SM, VSM), and several key panelists, including:

  • Harshvardhan Dave, DGM of Bharat Dynamics

 

  • Omesh Sinha, IOFS, Works Manager at Gliders India Ltd
  • Chintan Oza, Founder of Anantam Ecosystems
  • Ashish Kandoi, Mazgaon Dock

The speakers emphasized the need to strengthen indigenous capabilities for national progress, reducing dependence on external sources, and working towards a self-reliant India.

Venture and Investor Meet Promotes Industry Collaboration

At 2:30 PM, the event hosted a Venture and Investor Meet, providing a valuable platform for startups, entrepreneurs, investors, and industry veterans to engage in discussions. This session created networking opportunities and attracted investments in aerospace, defence, and aviation projects. Investors showed a keen interest in funding aerospace and defence training programs, recognizing their importance in shaping India’s skilled workforce.

The meet also facilitated collaborations between emerging businesses, research institutions, and established industry players, laying the groundwork for future innovation and economic growth.

 

Shri Nitin Gadkari Visits VEDIC Exhibition Stall

In the afternoon, Shri Nitin Gadkari visited the aerospace and defence exhibition stall organized by VEDIC. The exhibition showcased technological innovations, advanced training programs, and skill development initiatives aimed at strengthening India’s aerospace capabilities. His visit reaffirmed the government’s commitment to boosting the sector through investments in talent development, research, and innovation.

As the event concluded, industry leaders called for continued collaboration between academia,

government, and industry to advance India’s aerospace sector. Experts emphasized:

  • Policy reforms to attract global investments
  • Expansion of training programs to meet industry demand
  • Stronger infrastructure for aerospace RCD and innovation

With Nagpur emerging as a key hub for aerospace and defence technological advancements, the discussions at Advantage Vidarbha laid a solid foundation for future collaborations and industry growth.
